What we're up to...
GHBA 4th Quarter Report Card—2010 The GHBA staff is always busy looking for ways to improve member services, advocacy and education. Following is a quick look at what the association has been up to lately.
Government Affairs • The November elections brought about significant political change, with the Republicans gaining a rare super majority in the State House of Representatives, now holding 101 of 150 seats. The Texas Senate remained unchanged with Republicans continuing their majority hold at 19-12.
• In the U.S. House of Representatives, the Republicans recaptured the majority, winning 63 seats in their 242- 193 majority over Democrats. In the Senate, the Democrats retained control, however lost six seats and now only hold a 53-47 majority.
• Green Built Gulf Coast has continued to grow exponentially registering 347 homes in the fourth quarter alone. We expect 5,000 homes by the end of 2011.
• The Political Luncheon demonstrated our remarkable ability to bring together the Houston congressional delegation all in one room, which even surprised the members of Congress. This allowed us the opportunity to have an extremely important conversation about our industry, our issues, and the elections.
Benefit Homes • The 30th anniversary of the Benefit Homes Project was wrapped up with a $187,194 donation to our three local charities from the proceeds of the Village Builders/Friendswood Development home. The beneficiaries were Texas Children’s Cancer Center, the Alzheimer’s Association and HomeAid Houston.
• The Project also reached the $6 million mark donation to local charities since its inception.
Membership • GHBA added more than 90 new members during the last quarter of 2010.
• More than 200 memberships were renewed in the last quarter.

Tradeshows: 2010 Product Expo • GHBA’s annual members-only trade show brought nearly 100 associate member exhibitors and more than 300 builders, remodelers and developers together for a day of networking, education, food and fun at the Sam Houston Race Park on November 18. One of the association’s most popular events, the Expo showcases the latest products and services attendees need for the homes they build and remodel. All participants enjoyed hourly prize giveaways and informative seminars, including a special Codes & Standards presentation by SECO director Dub Taylor.

builders who have adopted the Green Built Gulf Coast program for interviews.
