Young Composer Competition


A


competition to compose a piece of choral music on an Olympic theme has been launched by the Eltham Choral Society.


The winner, for entrants up to age 18, will receive total prize money of £1,500, with £500 going to the individual composer and £1,000 to the sponsoring school or college.


Eltham Choral will perform the work at its summer concer t in 2012,


immediately before the start of that year’s London summer Olympics.


The composition should be five and eight minutes long on the theme of The London Olympics, either accompanied or a capella, for four or up to six part voices.


Initially, Eltham Choral Society is seeking expressions of interest and interested applicants will be contacted with full details and terms and conditions of the competition. Individuals or schools should get in touch by February with draft compositions to be received by the end of the year.

The Choral’s Spring


Concert this year will be Verdi’s Requiem, performed jointly with the Blackheath Halls Choir and James Allen’s


School, Dulwich, and held at Blackheath Concert Halls, on March 26- 28.


Rehearsals start on Thursday January 6 at St Luke’s Church, Westmount Road; new choir members welcome.
