“WHAT SEEMED AT FIRST TO BE JUST A LARGE ROOM ACTUALLY HAD MANY OBSTACLES TO CONSIDER”
Baber’s use of materials scored highly with the Design Award’s judges, and he only just missed out on a spot in the final three for Bathroom Design of the Year. The individual elements fit together well. “The bath has a lovely chunky ledge that gives it real presence. You can use it as a ledge for candles or wine, just as the bath filler can be a handy drinks tray,” says Baber. “The tiling was also an important part. I wanted to make an impact visually, but keep it muted and elegant. The mosaics are a mix of marble, glass and slate, helping to create an overall finish that I think is muted but which doesn’t compromise on beauty. “The same goes for the zebrano wood
used for the furniture. I wanted to create a luxurious space, but not over the top. I think I have succeeded, and – more importantly – so does my client! designer
