“TRANSLATE THIS PHILOSOPHY INTO THE HOME, AND RESIDENTIAL ENVIRONMENTS CAN ALSO BECOME ATMOSPHERIC SPACES WITH ELEMENTS OF SURPRISE AND JOY”

atmospheric spaces with elements of surprise and joy.” Freddie Achom, Co-Owner of Jalouse,

says that Humphrey’s ability to combine materials and styles into one coherent theme was integral to the club’s brand and interior feel: “We wanted to create a venue that was of a high standard in materials and quality of service. We felt that people expect this when visiting restaurants in London but that clubs do not deliver a high spec design and we hoped people would visit and feel the aesthetics and design was as good as London’s top restaurants. For him, there is no question of where

the biggest wow-factor comes from. “The ceiling is definitely the headline feature of the club. Our inspiration came from another club I own called Crystal which has a ceiling made of crystals. We pushed this to another level by designing our own diamond shape to be hung. It took technicians months to work together to develop a way in which these could be hung safely around the club.” The installation is made up of over 3,000 diamond cut-crystal pieces including LED lights. “Then,” adds Achom, “we topped it again by designing a moving chandelier in the centre which also changes colour. The effect when seen for the first time is

breathtaking and really wows our guests.” But then, there’s very little about this

space that is ordinary. For example, the bottom of the DJ booth, the bar, and the tables are all made from a composite of carbon fibre. This was previously only ever used on Formula One cars and has never before been used for a commercial design like this.

Given the fact that every aspect of

the design is bespoke, there was a lot of unchartered territory to be explored here by everyone involved. Achom adds: “What was really interesting about working on this project is that every contractor turned round to us and said they had never done this before. And yet everything went to plan and we now have a fantastic venue.” designer
