Some interior schemes are almost outrageously ambitious, but Mark Humphrey’s design for this exclusive London club shows just how well it can be done, writes Martin Allen-Smith
WITH
an interior created by designer Mark Humphrey,
the Mayfair ‘playground for the rich’ Jalouse has been created to impress. The client’s brief was to create a night club that had higher standards of design and quality than any other club in London. They wanted the venue to raise the standards of modern classic styling and the quality of materials and production techniques used – taking advantage of both ancient craftsmanship, and cutting-edge machined engineering. The choice of Humphrey as designer was
also a key one, as they wanted the design to incorporate a combination of natural and synthetic materials which is something of a trademark of his art and design philosophy. “The materials selected and combinations of both high quality natural and synthetic were essential to delivering an elegant, timeless yet individual night club product,” says Humphrey. “They seamlessly integrated with a foundation palette of black and greys. The illuminated sculptural amber onyx therefore stands out from the base canvas of muted dark atmospheric tones.”
