The design of the guestrooms follow the lead of the public areas with a neutral base, and detail provided through the colours and patterns of the Harris Tweed. Oversized lampshades, the headboard, sofa, and drapes are all Harris Tweed. Even the carpet by Gravity Flooring is loosely based on the herringbone pattern. The room is refreshingly clutter-free with guest amenities and mini-bar hidden in the wardrobe. Hamilton has sacrificed a few square metres in each guestroom to allow for a larger bathroom which, unusually for a newbuild, is of pod construction. Designed by Graven Images and manufactured off-site by IQquadro, the process involved the assembly of a frame around the perimeter of the bathroom from which marble panels were hung. The pod is encased in timber casegoods with the bathroom door measuring the same depth as


the wardrobe, saving valuable space. Sliding windows over the bath create an on-trend peek-a-boo effect into the bedroom. As Sleeper went to press, Blythswood Square was preparing to open a 10,000ft2 spa, also designed by Graven Images. This is the first time the firm has undertaken such an assignment, so it was no doubt a challenge. The spa will house a number of exclusive features including the Blythswood Thermal Experience – a seven stage journey of alternating temperature experiences, and the UK’s first indigenous Scottish treatments designed in conjunction with luxury organic skincare house Ila. Managing Director, Hans Rissmann says: “The Spa at Blythswood Square will be very much a city spa with a real cutting edge feel to it, blending the best spa therapies with fabulous facilities. We will be sophisticatedly Scottish with a touch of contemporary elegance that Glasgow has become famous for.”
