Interior designer Helen Green is currently working on a new suite at The Berkeley in London, where she completed three designer suites in 2006. Her fantasy hotel stay sees her dining with Coco Chanel in the Caribbean.
Where are we? The Grenadines. I adore the Caribbean and The Grenadines is the ultimate destination to rest and recharge your batteries in beautiful surroundings.
How did you get here? On a luxurious yacht designed by Bannenberg & Rowell Design.
Who are you sharing your room with? My husband Harry with our two children in an adjoining room.
Is there anything you would like waiting for you in your room on arrival? Gorgeous Trish McEvoy Wild Blueberry Vanilla scented candles. Also, a linen bathrobe from Bamford & Sons and L&B bed linen. I like a hotel room to feel familiar, comfortable and homely.
Who’s at the concierge desk? The team from Shutters on the Beach, Santa Monica.
And the owner / manager? Mark and Maria O’Hara from Coral Reef Club in Barbados – the most wonderful hoteliers, hosts and entertainers in the world.
Describe the hotel building, your room and the view...
The hotel is approached along a tree lined drive with white flowers, glimpses of pavilions and water pools. My room is bright and airy with a bed covered in sumptuous white linen, limewood floors, and mood lighting

offsetting the bright, locally sourced artwork. An expansive bathroom with ‘his & hers’ sinks contains a large bathtub and beyond this, doors open onto a terrace with a private plunge pool. We overlook a collection of beautiful islands splayed within crystal blue waters, stretches of white sandy beaches with local fishermen busy at work – simply relaxing and savouring the Caribbean lifestyle.
Who designed it? Michael S. Smith and Miuccia Prada.
What’s the restaurant / bar like? The bar has a veranda overlooking the sea and deep comfortable sofas covered in soft linen in pale shades.
Who are you dining with this evening? Michael S Smith, Tom Ford, Coco Chanel Capability Brown, David Cameron and Michelle Obama.
Who’s manning the stoves? Daniel Boulud. I adore his restaurants in New York and am thrilled he has come over to Mandarin Oriental in Knightsbridge, just on my doorstep!
And what’s on the menu? Starter: A garden vegetable salad with lemon and tarragon dressing Main Course: Grilled swordfish steaks with salsa verde and golden lentils Pudding: Passion fruit tart with mascarpone, homemade salted caramels and a few indulgent Ladurée macaroons
