THE SLEEP EVENT CONFERENCE
The Sleep Event Conference brings together some of the most influential industry professionals for two days of education, inspiration and networking. This year, it will focus on some of the most exciting European hotel projects to be recently completed, gathering the key decision makers to form one-off panel sessions discussing each hotel. Coming from a range of disciplines including project designers, architects, developers, investors, owners and operators, these expert panels will deliver an invaluable insight into a full range of hotels from boutique to luxury, budget to sustainable. The first day will see the iconic Savoy
Hotel, London, kick-off the luxury category with moderator Andrew Sangster speaking with those involved with the ambitious £100 million restoration project, including Design Principal Pierre Yves Rochan. Later in the day, Grace Leo and Lionel Anidjar of G.L.A Hotels, and Rui Lopes Ferreira, CFO of Unicer will reveal the process and inspiration behind the renovation of Portuguese county house, Vidago Palace near Porto. The first day will culminate with an
eco-friendly theme, discussing the newly built Costa Navarino Hotel in Greece, demonstrating a redefined type of sustainable
luxury. Andrew Sangster talks to Vice- President of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Niall Kelly, Managing Director of MKV Design Maria Vafiadis, Director of Design at Scape Design Associates Phill Jaffa, and Managing Director of Temes SA, Achilles Constantakopoulos. The second day of the conference will look to Keynote speaker, world renowned Theatre and Opera Designer Gary McCann, for inspiration on how the dramatic appeal of theatres can be transferred to a hotel environment. Tune Hotels’ ‘five-star beds at a one-star
price’ ethos will be unearthed with group CEO Mark Lakester leading a panel revealing their tricks of the trade. Neil L Worrell of Hilton Worldwide and
Peter Joehnk of JOI Design Interior Architects will join Guy Dittrich to discus their new eye-catching project, The Squaire / Hilton & Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt. The conference will also look at a key boutique brand with representatives from Swire Hotels, Make Architects and Rider Levett Bucknall. Finally, a new breed of conference hotel is
unveiled with the Radisson Blu Waterfront Stockholm, opening early 2011 – Hans Forsmark of White Arkitekter and panel take a look at this unique hotel.

The Product Innovation Awards, new to The Sleep Event this year, recognises the exceptional design prowess of the luxury hotel industry. Chosen for their truly unique function or design, the show will display the final 21 products within the Innovation Zone this November. The varied entries include the Air Multiplier Fan from Dyson, a circular fan with no blades that expels 405 litres of smooth and uninterrupted air every second. Roca will show W+W, an all in one washbasin and WC that uses wastewater from the basin to fill the WC. Over in the bedrooms category Variowell will exhibit their revolutionary new mattress that changes its firmness to one of 48 different settings by using an electronic control. The final line-up will also feature products from Chelsom, Geberit, Gloster Furniture, Grohe and Hansgrohe. A panel of industry experts including Paul Flowers, Senior Vice President of Design at Grohe, industry PR Su Pecha, and Assistant Editor of Sleeper Magazine, Catherine Martin will judge the final designs and announce the winner at The Sleep Event in November.
