Baby Signs Program Boosts Communication J
essica Boberg-Harris and Marissa D’Agostino- Pendley, speech-language pathologists and
Baby Signs independent certified instructors, are offering the Baby Signs program to help young children communicate with peers, par- ents and other adults, through the use of simple signs. Their Parent Workshop is designed for parents of children from birth to 24 months and teaches how to begin signing at home. Sign, Say and Play are six-week classes for par-
ents and babies from 6 months to 2 years. Classes begin September 10, in Naples. Fun games, songs, music and activities highlight important developmental skills,
and each class includes an introductory kit that contains resources to continue the learning process at home. Baby Signs was created by two child development experts, Drs. Linda Acredolo
and Susan Goodwyn, to help babies communicate before they are able to speak. Using the program strengthens the parent/infant bond; boosts babies’ self-confi- dence; promotes positive emotional and intellectual development; and helps babies learn to talk.

artists can begin applying to par- ticipate in this fall’s Art Royale 2010 It’s All El- emental gala showcase. Forms and related info for the November 20 event, conduct- ed by Lee County Alliance for the Arts, are available online at
ArtInLee.org. The one-night celebration of art, the
Alliance’s signature annual fundraiser, will showcase intriguing artists, entertainers and interactive art exhibits, providing an outlet for creation beyond traditional for- mats and reinforcing the importance of arts and culture in our lives and community. New this year, the It’s All Elemental
theme will be incorporated into a jur- ied gallery exhibition. Selected 2D/3D artwork by Alliance members will be displayed November 16-27 and fea- tured as the main gallery exhibit at Art Royale 2010. The Alliance supports the artists
