Conservancy Nature Center Temporarily Closed

of Southwest Florida Na- ture Center


will be closed to the public through the end of October for major reno- vation of its $17 million Sustainable Campus initiative. It will reopen on November 1 with new operating hours of 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. During the closure period, Conservancy members can receive free admission to the nearby Naples Zoo at Carib- bean Gardens. The Wildlife Rehabilitation


Clinic and Injured Animal Drop-off will remain open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. Business and administrative offices will also remain open. The renovations, part of the


facility’s Saving Southwest Florida Capital Campaign, are expected to conclude early next year and will transform the Conservancy’s 21 acres into a model for sustainable design and environmental responsibility. The new Conservancy Campus will include the Sugden Gomez Envi- ronmental Planning Center and von Arx Wildlife Clinic. The Dalton Dis- covery Center, Eaton Conservation Hall featuring the Jeannie Meg Smith Theater, and the Ferguson Interactive Learning Lab will undergo extensive renovations. Other sustainable fea- tures will include new filter marshes to enhance the water quality of the Gordon River and Naples Bay.

Zoe Mai Returns for Sanskrit Workshop E


xplore the interconnected relationships between yoga and language through the knowledge of national touring Sanskrit teacher Zoe Mai, who will offer a 14-hour introductory workshop at Health & Harmony Center, in Fort Myers. The workshop will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m., September 24; 1:30 to 7:30 p.m., September 25; and 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., September 26. Mai, who trained with Vyass Houston, founder of the American Sanskrit Institute, is returning to the center after her first successful workshop last June. Brittany Speakman, a yoga teacher intern at Health & Harmony who participated


in the workshop, recounts: “Twelve students from Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel and Ohio came together as friends and strangers to learn this magical and mysteri- ous language. We united and bonded on many levels. Creativity was unleashed as new sounds were attempted [and we] learned new skills with great fun. Connections were made on new dimensions within self and among others.” Owner and director Kandy Love says a more advanced Sanskrit workshop is being considered for November.
