A-LISTS rage rhythms Eve ALL ABOUT

What tuned Eve into being an MC? I’ve always been a writer. I’ve written poems and stuff like that. I started singing first.

A lot of my early memories of music are female MCs like Queen Latifah and MC Lyte. So, when I got to high school, it was like…I want to do what gets me the most attention. So, MC-ing got me the most attention (laughter).

Her thoughts on the evolution of the rap music industry since 1999. It’s huge! Obviously, when I first came out, there wasn’t as much Internet and down- loading…that kind of thing or iTunes. None of that was happening. Also, the one thing that I love that evolved is that now hip-hop has meshed into so many different things. There is pop/hip-hop and dance/hip-hop. There is no real title you can put on it. When I first came out, there were only a certain number of radio stations that would play my kind of music. Now, a bunch of radio stations play a bunch of different kinds of music. I think that’s a great thing.

On her collaborations with Gwen Stefani and Mary J. Blige… The first song we [Gwen and I] did was for my album and I called her. When she de-

cided to do her album, she called me. It was kind of like a “swap” thing. With Mary J. Blige, we’d known each other for a while. I’ve always been a fan so I was just honored that she called to ask me to be on something with her. Usually, you know, it’s just someone reaching out to you and saying, “Hey. Do you want to do this song?”

Eve’s passion for Reggae music. I love it. That’s all I listen to all day and every day!

MULTI-TALENTED PERFORMER HEADLINES 2010 SAN DIEGO PRIDE ENTERTAINMENT by bill biss

Known for her phenomenal solo career in rap/hip-hop and pop music, Eve is coming to the San Diego Pride Festival main stage on

Saturday, July 17 at 8:15 p.m. The Grammy Award-winning entertainer has a glamorous sense of style, a sensational way with words and divides her talent between film, television, fashion and her musical career. The Rage Monthly found Eve Jihan Jeffers sincere, thoughtful and funny. It’s all about Eve…should we say.

I guess I’m excited about it. I did it, so I guess I have to be happy about it. But, I have

to say, initially when I did it; it was kind of like the best five hours of therapy I never had to pay for. You go through so much of your life and certain things come up that you completely forget about. I think it’s going to be really good. I can’t wait to see how it’s going to be received.

On being contacted to be in Drew Barrymore’s film Whip It and her initial reaction. I’d gotten a call from my agent at the time and she was like, “Hey. Drew Barrymore

wants your cell phone number. Is that okay?” I was like, “Yeah! It’s Drew Barrymore. What’s she gonna do? Crank call me?” So, she called me and said, “Hey. I have this movie. I’ve been scouting locations and we still have this character that we can’t figure out and who we want this character to be. And when you popped in my head, you were perfect.” She started explaining about the movie. Already, she never had to explain or pitch me the movie…obviously I was going to do it because she was attached. Anything she does is great. Working with her is an honor.

Eve shares her feelings about performing on the San Diego Pride stage. I’m really excited. I’m definitely going to do probably two or three new songs, at least

two. But, we’ll see how the crowd is…but I want to do some new music because I’ll have a new single out then virally and an official single out in October.

When will Eve finish polishing her new apple of tunes for her next CD? Very soon, very soon. I’m actually almost done. I’ve signed with my new record label

and then we’ll make the blueprint for getting the album out. The album will probably not come out until January of next year, but you’ll hear singles and see visuals over the next few months.
