Avenue Q “What do you do with a BA in English?” That’s the opening song to Avenue Q,


the story of Princeton, a puppet with a college degree. He is looking to find his purpose and make his mark on the world. So where does he go—the Big Apple of course! Finding the city housing expensive, he rents an apartment on Avenue Q. A place where puppets, monsters and people are trying to find the American Dream. Winner of the Tony Award Winner for Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical, Avenue Q includes songs like, “If You Were Gay,” Every- one’s a Little Bit Racist,” “The Internet Is for Porn” and “You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want (When You’re Makin’ Love)” The shows creators (Robert Lopez, Jeff Marx and Jeff Whitty) are quick to point out that the show has not been autho- rized or approved in any manner by The Jim Henson Company or Sesame Street Workshop, although all three admit they are paying homage to Henson and they worked for him once upon a time…Avenue Q is not appropriate for children due to language, adult content, full puppet nudity and sexual situations. The central character, Usnavi, passes out coffee and papers from his store front and everyone’s stories and dreams pass through his modest space. A Midsummer’s Night Dream –The Musical La Jolla Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley re-imagines William Shakespeare’s classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The story will remain intact: Hermia faces the threat of an arranged marriage. When she and her forbidden lover escape into the forest, her unwanted fiancé follows in hot pursuit. But the woods and its mischievous fairies have their own surprises and the lovers soon find themselves in a world turned upside-down! The twist to this piece is it will be interwoven with music from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream score, performed live on onstage by the San Diego Youth Symphony.
