Edible Wall Built at Pizzeria Mozza K
Jim Mumford of GreenScaped Buildings
nown as San Diego’s “green roof guy,” Jim Mumford of GreenScaped Buildings built the
first edible wall at Chef Mario Batali’s Los Angeles restaurant, Pizzeria Mozza. An edible wall is a struc- ture that allows plant materials to grow on a build- ing on vertical space either indoors or out. These structures take up less space than a typical garden and can be filled with herbs, fruits and vegetables. “We’ve always been leaders in our industry
when it comes to sustainability, and a green wall is just the logical next step,” says Chef Batali. “Now
that the wall is reality, we hope it will start meaningful conversations and create awareness among our patrons about sustainability.” Edible walls are not just for topnotch chefs. Anyone can duplicate projects such as this in their homes, on a smaller scale.

on Joseph Goewey, author and co- founder of ProAttitude, announces the second printing of his book, Mystic Cool: A Proven Approach to Transcend Stress, Achieve Optimal Brain Function, and Maximize your Creative Intelligence. Goewey, who has worked in some of the most stressful places on Earth—from cancer wards to refugee camps to corpo- rate offices—helps individuals transcend stress and fear in order to reach their higher potential. His book defines a proven approach that rewires the brain to extinguish stress reactions and light up higher brain networks to sustain peak performance and greater well-being. Goewey decided to proceed with the second printing because he believes that the simple set of tools in his book can make a difference for people who need them to solve problems. “I think the tools I offer are particularly appli- cable now, because the world is full of problems that engage our attention,” says Goewey. “For example, the people of the Gulf Coast, who have every reason to be concerned, angry and to demand action, shouldn’t let fear, stress or enmity take hold of them. They need the solutions that a powerful brain offers, so they can prevail over the circumstances they are facing.”
