hree years into her under- graduate work at the Uni- versity of California Irvine,

Dr. Jennifer Liu discovered that

her fascination for human anatomy and a genuine interest in helping others would best be served by a career in natural medicine. “After discovering that allopathic medicine was more about pharmacology and surgery than preventing ill- ness and healing, I began to turn away from the idea of going to medical school until one of my professors introduced me to the concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine and how the body can heal itself,” says Liu. A new door to holistic healing and natural remedies opened for Liu, who began considering the idea of chiropractic school. “It resonated so much more with my personality and what I originally saw myself doing when I imagined a career in health care,” enthuses Liu, who graduated in 2009 from Southern California University of Health Sciences in Los Angeles. Trips to Guatemala and Mexico during her chiropractic internship presented Liu with the opportunity to volunteer her services adjusting underprivileged individuals who were unable to afford health care. “For one week we ad- justed people eight hours a day and during that time I got to see how life-changing chiropractic could be, which left me feeling very inspired,” notes Liu, whose preferred chi- ropractic technique is known as the Gonstead System. She first analyzes the function of the spine and nerves, and then along with x-ray findings is able to deliver a precise, carefully controlled adjustment. This technique is also preferred by Dr. Ryan Caringola whose True Chiropractic Wellness offices she shares. For patients interested in moving toward optimal well- ness, Liu suggests a review of their lifestyle with a focus on nutritional intake and exercise. “I offer nutritional counseling based on the Paleolithic diet, which was the nutrition of our ancestors who didn’t suffer from lifestyle diseases like heart disease and diabetes,” says Liu. “I use this model because I believe it relieves us of our emotional attachment to food
