Retiring Ron but family ties continue
HEAD Groundsman at Bath
Racecourse, Ron Hogston, is calling it a day after 31 years at the course. A family tradition will continue, however, because Ron’s son, Andrew, will take over the position, as Ron did from his father, George, in 1975.
In fact the family connection goes back more than 100 years. George took over the job from his father, John, whose earliest memory was being taken to the racecourse in his pushchair to watch his father at work. And, that was before the First World War! Ron officially steps down from the post a few days before Christmas.
