APEL Holdings to manufacture and market Allen Hover Mowers

THE Football Association has announced that an agreement has been reached with the builders of the new Wembley stadium, Multiplex, which ‘will avoid a lengthy and expensive legal dispute’ and ‘ensure that the stadium opens for business as early as possible in 2007’. The actual terms of the agreement are not being made public but it is believed an additional payment is to be made to Multiplex of around £35m, which is on top of the original overall contract cost of £757m, and is to take account of changes to the

design. The FA is still being cautious about an actual completion date, no doubt to avoid a repeat of this year’s embarrassing debacle when they had to re-schedule their 2006 fixtures to other venues after the completion deadline was moved and missed on several occasions.

The agreement should

allow completion of the work in time to stage a couple of test events in advance of the showpiece FA Cup Final, scheduled for the 19th May.

Wizards of Aus Respect down under for pitchcare.com

THE Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association (AGCSA) was formed in 1981 and performs a similar roll to that of BIGGA here in the UK. Each week they publish an E-Newsletter called ‘The Cut’ which updates their membership on all things golf in Australia.

One section is, called

‘Have Your Say’, a weekly forum for its members. Recently they asked whether course superintendents and turf

managers regularly used the internet to aid them in their day-to-day turf management operations and which websites proved particularly useful.

Not surprisingly the Bureau of Meteorology website www.bom.gov.au was at the top of many superintendents’ ‘favourites’ list. And who ran the weather a close second? www.pitchcare.com For further info about the

WITH the trading company Allen Power Equipment Limited of Didcot, Oxfordshire now in administration, the parent company, APEL Holdings Limited, has taken direct control of the Allen Hover Mower production and worldwide sales. Commenting on the announcement shareholder Tim Allen said, “the Allen Hover Mower brand is very strong in the professional turf- care market, particularly on many of the world’s golf courses. It is the Holdings Company’s intention to continue to actively promote the complete range of Allen Hover Mowers, including the exciting and recently introduced XR44 model.” Allen Hover Mowers are currently sold in over thirty different countries, including new emerging markets in Poland, Russia, Vietnam and China.

Mr Allen added, “Obviously a major change in distribution

like this is understandably unnerving to our dealers, distributors and end users alike but we are making it a priority to ensure the continuity of supply of our mowers and spare parts around the globe.” The Allen family have been associated with the design and production of outdoor power equipment since the late 1800’s.
