PAUL Woodham, Course Manager at Gay Hill Golf Club in the Midlands, made a Course Policy Document one of his first priorities when he took over his new position

GAY HILL on course

Since my arrival at Gay Hill Golf Club one of the many things we have focused on was setting up a Course Policy Document that gives clear objectives of what we want to achieve here at Gay Hill. The aim of the document is to bring continuity and consistency in the management of the golf course. Written in 2005, and following the recommendations on a suitable policy as laid down by the EGU, the document covers management practices and policies, guidelines and responsibilities. It is hoped that the Course

Policy Document will give future staff, Board members and club members clear guidance in the management and policy of a traditional

member’s golf club.

Objectives

• To continue to improve the presentation and consistency of the course at all times.

• With further improvements of the drainage, irrigation, tee and bunker construction, provide near year round golf.

• Be environmentally and ecologically responsible in all actions.

• Provide a safe workplace and golf course which can be played by all.

• Promote the traditions and etiquette of the game.

The policy sets out roles and responsibilities for all who work at the club

Roles and Responsibilities Policy making for the golf course:

Board of Directors in consultation with the Course Manager and any other relevant professional advisor (agronomist, ecologist, health and safety consultant etc).

Management of the Golf Course and Greens staff:

The Course Manager or Senior Greenkeeper

The Course Manager will attend Green Committee, Health & Safety Committee and Board Meetings.
