Keeping the Dream Alive . By Wendy Anne Flanagan. Rishton Our stories, music and national culture are full of allusions to our fascination with dreams. We long for a dream house or a dream holiday. Follow every rainbow till you find your dream, sings the Abbess to Maria in The Sound of Music. Sweet dreams are made of this, by Annie Lennox, Dreamer by Supertramp, I dreamed a dream by Susan Boyle, are all well known songs with a dream theme. Wake up to your dreams and follow the message they are giving you, we are told by the New Age gurus. Hold fast to dreams say the dreamy Argos posters. Carl Sandburgh said “Nothing happens unless first a dream”. Some people place a feathered dream - catcher above their bed. This Native American tradition is said to trap and prevent bad dreams. Dreams are like a journey into the deep mysteries of our sub conscious mind, where an array of symbolic imagery, colours, sounds and shapes throw light on our true nature, our cherished desires and heartfelt wishes about

life and relationships.

P.S. Your girlfriend called.

Theories about dream analysis can be viewed from two distinctive perspectives. The first considers dreams as the way our brains process and release unwanted thoughts and ideas at the end of the day. The second theory maintains that correctly interpreted, dreams can be useful insights into our unconscious minds and can serve to enlighten us or heal unresolved issues. The two psychologists associated with dream analysis are Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) who called dreams “the royal road to the unconscious”, and Swiss born Carl Jung (1875-1961) who researched into a universal bank of dream symbols that we genetically inherit and use. These dream archetypes include the Great Mother, the Hero and the Wise Sage. Other universal imagery includes angels, animals, gardens and panoramic landscapes. Next month we look at Dream interpretation.

In the meantime dare we dream of winning the World Cup ?

Financial planning.....

Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed to find a wife with whom to share his fortune. One evening, at an investment meeting, he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. "I may look like an ordinary guy," he said to her, "but in just a few years, my father will die & I will inherit £200 million." Impressed, the woman asked for his business card and three days later, she became his stepmother. Women are so much better at financial planning than men.
