How on Earth Did We Manage ?
20.
In 1966 Harold Wilson was Prime Minister, “Anglo” won the Grand National, Manalo Santana and Billy Jean King won the Wimbledon Titles. Everton won the F.A. Cup, Jack Nicklaus won the Open at Muirfield, Jack Brabham won the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, Oh and England won the World Cup beating Germany 4 - 2 in the Final. Thought we’d better mention that.
Pictured above is proprietor Ian Tattersall with his very rare 1966 Ford Corsair convertible. Ian rescued the vehicle from a neighbour who was about to scrap it, and has spent the last 12 months bringing it back to life. Ian has a strong memory of the Corsair era as he grew up on the next street to Local Cycling Hero Alan Ramsbottom. Alan, who twice rode in the Tour de France, was the first person in the area to own a Corsair, and Ian recalls it looked like an alien spacecraft in comparison to the square shaped vehicles of the day. Still a bit of work to do but when it’s finished with it’s original number plate of GNB 802D it will certainly stop the traffic in Harwood.
