WORLD CUP SPECIAL - COME ON ENGLAND
WELCOME TO THE RONALDO SHOW
That Ronaldo !
Ronaldo de Assis Moreira ,commonly known as Ronaldinho or Gaucho in Brazil, because the other Ronaldo is also known as Ronaldinho. He plays for Milan and Brazil and regarded as one of the most gifted players in the game. The only footballer who can eat an apple through a tennis racket.
On 21 June 2002 he took that
free-kick from 35 metres, beating
England goalkeeper David Seaman to give Brazil a 2–1 lead. Brazil won the World Cup for the fifth time. The only consolation was that they beat Germany 2 - 0 in the final in Japan.
No………….That Ronaldo !
England went out of the World Cup in Germany in 2006 3-1 on penalties after their quarter-final with Portugal ended 0-0. England lost skipper David Beckham to injury just after half-time and Wayne Rooney was sent off after 62 minutes for a stamp on Ricardo Carvalho. The referee Horacio Elizondo was urged on by Portugal
players - including Rooney's Man,U, team-mate Cristiano ( Poser ) Ronaldo - to take action. But after hanging on heroically, three England players were heartbroken when they missed their penalties. Can you name them ? See page 18. The only consolation was that Germany didn’t make the final. Italy went on to beat France 5—3 on penalties to win their 4th title.
