RECORDING STUDIO
NEW RECORDING STUDIO
The Music Department has just opened a new recording studio that will enable pupils to record music, broadcast concerts and fixtures, create podcasts and set up a Merchiston radio station. The studio will enable the Department to deliver Higher Music with Sound Engineering and Standard Grade Music, as the School now has the facilities and teaching experience to deliver these qualifications. Pupils in the Upper Sixth Form helped to prepare the studio, clearing out the space and setting up the equipment; they will also be designing some stencil artwork for the walls.
A MUSICAL MINUTE WITH BWANI JUNCTION
Our band is made up of Rory (rhythm guitar/vocals), Daniel (lead guitar), Jack (drums) and Fergus (bass guitar/backing vocals). We formed the band when we were all in the Second Form. The line-up changed last year when Daniel came to the School. We started the band because of a common interest in music, especially pop music. We really do it because we love music. Our musical influences include a range of genres from Afrobeat, to Indie Folk such as the Decemberists. We are working on our first demo and we hope to promote this throughout our Gap year. We have already played lots of gigs, the latest supporting ‘Detroit Social Club’ and we are next supporting ‘Egyptian Hip-Hop’. We are all taking a Gap year next year to pursue our music, and have applied to university to study Music in 2011.
