GRANDPARENTS SERVICE
Boys invited their grandparents along to the Whole School Sunday Service on 7 February. The Service was led by Pringle and focused on doing a good deed for someone else, when someone does one for you.
THE CHAPLAINCY TEAM
BY MR BLAIR
REMEMBRANCE SERVICE
In 2003 when Rev Allan Macpherson retired as full-time Chaplain at Merchiston, the Headmaster Andrew Hunter, developed the idea of team ministry within the School, recognising the growing diversity within society and indeed within the School community itself. There is very much an underlying ethic that spirituality matters and that fostering a sense of the spiritual, and at the very least a respect and understanding of faith, is part of being a well- rounded and happy individual. The boys may well be tired of my saying “I am not here to tell you what to think but I do want to make you think”...but this approach, to stimulate questions and explore answers together is very much at the heart of what we do. Various groups run within the School, from Open House on Sundays, to S.U groups for those interested in exploring the Christian faith, and other, often impromptu, discussion groups. Alex Anderson (Dean of Sixth Form) and l head up this approach, ably supported by other members of staff, not least Philip Rossiter (Head of the Middle School).
Boys from the 24 different nationalities currently represented at the School lit candles at the Service, as the congregation observed traditional features of the day including a two-minute silence, Last Post and Reveille.
