TRIPS & EXCURSIONS

SKI TRIP

STRATFORD

The annual ski trip saw 35 boys, from the First Form to the Sixth Form travel by coach to the attractive Tyrolean town of Sölden, set 1300m high in

the Austrian Alps. Along with endless skiing the boys enjoyed evening

activities of swimming, football and bowling. The group also visited Innsbruck to watch an ice hockey match between Austria and France.

Towards the end of every Summer Term for the last few years the English Department has organized a visit to Stratford- upon-Avon for those boys in the Sixth Form studying English Literature. This year’s trip went to performances of ‘As You Like It’ and ‘Julius Caesar’ as well as visiting sites such as Mary Arden’s House at Wilmcote.

COLOGNE EXCHANGE SCHOOL VISIT

GEOGRAPHY TRIP TO MORCAMBE & CUMBRIA

The Lower Sixth Form geographers visited Morecambe and South Cumbria as part of the new AS course on geographical investigations. Pupils studied the diversification of farms to cope with the lower levels of income through agriculture in the UK. A visit to Holme Farm near Sedbergh

and Greenland’s Open Farm Park near Kirby Lonsdale provided excellent examples of successful rural rebranding strategies. The group then headed to Morecambe to see how the town is attempting regeneration through the building of new sea defences and social housing redevelopments.

A group of 12 pupils from our partner school in Cologne returned the visit we paid them last December by visiting Merchiston for three days at the end of the Autumn Term. The German pupils shadowed boys who are studying German, or studied German last year to get an insight into life at Merchiston.
