MYSTICAL MENTORS

Palmistry Workshop - The Endomorph Hand

By T. Stokes

The first thing on looking at a hand is correct categori- zation, and several systems are used by palmists. There is the basic double Jungian system of introvert/extro- vert, with its many sub divisions, there is the Gettings system of 4, the elements system of 5, the Carus system of 6, the still popular spiritual system of 7 as used by Cheiro, which aligns to the chakras and the Bible, and others. For the beginner, simple system of Ectomorph Mesomorph and Endomorph body typology is easiest to grasp, being just 3 basic types and sub-mixtures of these types. I actually use all these systems in different circumstances.

Dr. Eric Berne, author of the best selling book “Games People Play”, Dr. W. H. Sheldon, the constitutional psy- chology pioneer, and Prof. D. Cohen all claim the best categorization of human nature is based on physique. Dr. Sheldon tells us that the 3 body types develop from the 3 embryonic layers, the endoderm, mesoderm and ectoderm. The corresponding mental frameworks for each body type are Viscerotonia Somatatonia and Cerebrotonia.

This is a typical handprint of an Endomorph, they are normally short and stocky with thick limbs. The soft round body shape is echoed here in the hand, the palms being small, silky in texture wide and soft with conic fingers and a pointy thumb, which is often flexible. They usually have a large wide head and a fleshy stomach area, and no matter what they do or eat will never look thin and were not built to, these are the people forever on diets and struggling with self image. Endomorphs feel victimized and are very resentful of what they feel is size discrimination.

Categorizing the type correctly, no matter which system you use gives you so much information on health destiny and psychological outlook, which is great for problem analysis. Dr Alvin Feinstein the obe- sity expert from Yale University, said for the Endomorph to try to lose weight is not as important as psychological and sexual inte- gration and acceptance.

I used to counsel college students and I found that those colleges which really push sports onto the young were the cause of so much depression bullying and absentee- ism, that I had to organize a “fat friends day”. Some of the best artists singers and comedians the college had ever seen were on the stage that very memorable day.

This was a great lesson in valuing people of all sizes and shapes.

The US feminist psychologists have long questioned the whole arena of ideal weights and sizes, and even medical bodies vary in their verdicts, but no one would doubt that endomorphs make devoted and loving par- ents and partners being especially affectionate loyal and humorous.

The Endoderm or inner layer grows into our digestive systems and abdominal organs, ideally the 3 layers grow equally but in some cases one will outstrip the other two, and this influences both the body and mind throughout the life. These Endomorphic people have a high incidence of large stomach, broad hips, big but- tocks and large faces, with a tendency for cardio-pul- monary disease or diabetes. All this will show in the hand.

A good technique is to press the mount of Venus, the softness or firmness will tell of the energy quality avail- able, the firmer the better.

The print shown, has a low set heart line with many breaks showing the need for vigilance in the cardio- vascular area. (1)

Endomorphic men are very prone to self image prob- lems, and this is documented as a major cause of mid life crisis. This group is statistically the most liable for the Andropause, the male menopause where they sud- denly realize that as their testosterone drops they are aging. Thinning hair and expanding midriff notwithstand-

ing, they grow beards and buy young men’s motorbikes. Often then want to chase young women.

The example palm print shown has this midlife crisis at age 47 - 50 (2)

Constitutional psychologists, those who ally physique to psychological outlook, are often attacked by other psychol-

ogy schools, but none seems to have all the answers. This system suits palmistry well.

Dr. Eric Berne the founder of CBT coun-

seling which is ideal for palmistry, was in fact a man who wrote many times that he hated fortune tellers. It’s strange that his work is so suited to it.

A good fortune teller is hard to come by, for the training must include, compara-
