Spiritual Journey to the Andes

There are few places in the world that can get our atten- tion for the their rich culture, traditions, archaeological sites, enigmas and magnetic energy. If you want to go to a place where mother earth connects with father sky, that place is Cusco the so called “Navel of the World”.

On November 15th 1532 Spaniard conquistador, Francisco Pizarro, captured Inca Atahualpa Inca in the region of Cajamarca. The next year Pizarro and his adventurers entered into the imperial city of Cusco. This was the capital of the Inca Empire that ruled almost half of the South American continent. This was a dream come true for Francisco Pizarro. The splendor, wealth and its vast territory now belonged to a little army.

means revolution, a peri- od when everything was turned upside down and a new era began. The natives thought that the Spaniards were going to share their gifts and work together to expand their huge empire. These were the ways of a

means to share. To share what you know, your feel- ings, your land and the gifts of mother earth or Pachamama. That is a concept that was cherished by the Inca people.

Garcilaso de la Vega, the son of a conquistador and an Inca princess wrote about the Inca observatory/fortress of Sacsayhuaman in his book The Royal Commentaries

of the Incas.

Sacsayhuaman (satisfied falcon) is a temple/fortress and is part of a much bigger archaeological park. But seeing is believing this colossal masterpiece of archi- tecture. It’s prodigious ramparts shape in zigzags with enormous stone walls, several with more than 100 tons

are quite impressive. This site has three levels, where the third level leads you to an astronomical observatory. The astronomer priests inherited an ancient knowledge and built an artificial water mirror divided in three circles surrounded by twelve sections Now, imagine yourself doing yoga right there with a spectacular view of the mountains, inhaling, holding and exhaling pure Prana making an inner connection with yourself and the energy of the Andes.

peculiar construction over a solid Andean granite that has a under- ground ritual chamber that con- nects the visitor with the Uku Pacha or Underworld. From Quenko a stop to the water fountains of Tambomachay is a must see. A quiet place where the Incas cel- ebrated rituals dedicated to this vital element that supports our life. According to the Andean cos- mology, we all are part of a living planet and the earth changes that we are witnessing right now are happening because humanity has forgotten our sacred bond with mother earth.

A tour de force is of course Machu Picchu the jewel of the Andes. Built on the top of a mountain, this mag- nificent citadel was one inhabited mostly by women. Most of them

priestesses that were part of an elite group of keepers of the sacred fire and the worshiping of the Sun. This is a place known as a planetary chakra, a unique place where you can practically feel the magnetic energy and feel respect and wonder for what the human spirit is capable of creating under a holistic vision.
