INDULGENCES outrageous by daisy torres
For such a short month, February sure kept me busy. Now I need a month
filled with foot massages and soothing hot tea in order to catch my breath. Un-
fortunately, I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon, but I’m sure you
will agree that I deserve it after spending so much time on my feet last month. Of
course February brings Valentine’s Day, which keeps Cupid busy playing match-
maker. I kicked off my V-Day weekend at the House.boi “Love and Lust” party. As
usual for House.boi events, there was a great turnout and the cute DJ Marcel Hatu
played music for the adorable go-go dancers to shake their ass-ets to as plenty of
people showed up to shop and mingle. I have a little crush on one of the dancers,
so I naturally had to show up. A few days later on Valentine’s Day, I went downtown
to Side Bar with some of the girls so we could mingle with all the other single folks
in town. I could have stayed home and eaten chocolate while pondering why all
guys are dorks, but instead I danced and partied the night away. I even flirted with
one or two of the single boys in the mix. Of course, my love life aside, the big event
last month was Hillcrest Mardi Gras as we celebrated Fat Tuesday. University Ave.
was blocked off and filled with bead-earning boys and girls. I gave out plenty of
beads. I wish I hadn’t forgotten my camera, but fortunately I have a photographic
Finally, there was my own birthday on the last day of February. I celebrated my
birthday at The Flame and it was not only a celebration of another year of my life,
Side Bar
but it was also a fundraiser to give another person another chance at life. We raised
money for my friend Renee who is undergoing heart surgery soon. The night was
a huge success and I want to thank all the people who showed up and all the local
businesses who supported the event. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my
special day.
In Like a Lion...
March has potential for as much excitement as last month. Here are some of the
places you will see me about town.
It’s well known that I like men who are well endowed...with a great sense of
humor. So, at the top of my must-do list this month is multi-faceted performer and
Emmy Award-winning actor, John Leguizamo. His new uncensored, uninhibited
Daisy anD Ruby’s
one man show will keep audiences in stitches at the La Jolla Playhouse March 4
-14. Chi-Chi (To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar) is in the house.
Of course as a Latina who loves to watch movies, each year I look forward to the
San Diego Latin Film Festival. The festival takes place March 11-21 and features
more than 175 feature films to be screened from Latin America, U.S., Spain and
Mexico. All of them are showing for the first time in San Diego; with many being
U.S. and World premieres as well. In addition to the film screenings, special guest
celebrities/filmmakers will be present.
The San Diego Latino Film Festival continues its mission to help correct the
often distorted images seen on television and in movies by presenting a landmark
year of its Cine Gay Showcase. The festival takes advantage of the opportunity of
this showcase to highlight experiences of gay life in different corners of the world,
underlining the universal experience as well as the unique expressions of the
Latin LGBT community.
Of course, the big party this month is Saint Patrick’s Day. Whether you’re Irish
or if you just wish you had a little Irish in you, or not so little if you know what I
mean, St. Patty’s day is always a fun time for all. I’m going to get my green dress
dry cleaned and get myself down to the ShamROCK celebration March 17 in the
gaslamp. The party will include live rock and roll and punk rock bands, super fun
Hillcrest Mardi Gras
DJs, special entrance to clubs and bars, and of course, Irish food and green beer.
Visit for additional information. Well that’s it for this month, it’s time
for a relaxing massage and then a long bath.
And yes, Daisy might have gotten a V-day date after all….to be continued.
Xoxo Daisy Torres
