We are proud of our support for students. It has been
consistently praised by inspectors over recent years and
has been awarded top grades. The College has
produced a DVD illustrating our outstanding student
support. Copies are available on request.
You will be allocated to a tutor who will discuss your
progress with you. Tutors will be able to give you advice
on a range of issues and concerns including:
• study skills
• subject difficulties
• coping with stress
• domestic problems
• finance and personal issues
• health-related matters
• course changes
Tutorial Provision
At LSC we pride ourselves on the support and care
offered to our students to help them achieve their
academic goals. All of our tutors are trained in the
essential skills of pastoral care to provide students with
personal guidance and advice whilst they are studying

at College. Our tutors work with students to develop
Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), review and support
student progress and give advice on careers and higher

education. All students will develop their ILPs through
the tutorial to help them plan, prepare and improve
their own performance in their studies.
The College provides a counselling service and students
have access to an educational psychologist and advice
on welfare, health and financial issues.
College Advice and Information Officer
Leyton Sixth Form College has a designated person to
support students with welfare and support needs.
These may include:
• emotional and family issues
• drug and alcohol issues
• financial support
• opening a bank account
• housing and benefit advice
• sexual health advice
We have a wide range of resources available to us
and are able to refer students to external agencies if
necessary. We also have an in-house counsellor from
Waltham Forest Face2Face counselling service and a
Connexions Personal Adviser for all student progression
needs.
Preparing for University
Around 400 LSC students go on to university each year,
including students from both A level and Advanced
vocational courses. They are well prepared for all
universities and courses. These include: Oxford,
Cambridge, Imperial, Edinburgh, UCL, LSE, Bristol and
others. Some go to specialist art and music schools and
colleges. They read a vast range of subjects like
Medicine, Dentistry, Modern Languages, Aerospace
Engineering, Economics, English, Business subjects and
