Where can this lead me? Students who achieve a Merit or
Distinction at this level may progress to the BTEC National
Diploma or a similar Advanced course. The course helps
develop skills necessary for employment in the media.
What are the enrichment opportunities? There are trips
including visits to TV studios and free film screenings. You
will also have the opportunity to participate in community
media projects. We have strong links with media
professionals and we regularly invite them to the College
to work with students.
Media Production:
BTEC National Diploma
The BTEC National Diploma is a practical work-related
course. Students learn by completing projects and
assignments that are based on realistic industry situations,
activities and demands. As well as learning how media
products communicate with audiences, you will develop
broad-based production skills needed to start your career
in the media. It is equivalent to three A levels.
Course details You will develop practical skills to enable
you to produce moving images, print and image
manipulation, journalism and sound for radio. You will
plan, produce, edit and evaluate your own media
productions in these areas. You will develop your writing
and research skills.
How is it assessed? Assessment is through a coursework
portfolio. Students will also take Key Skills for which they
will produce a portfolio and take an examination.
Course duration Two years full-time.
What do I need to study this subject? You should have
five GCSE grades A*-C including English Language, or a
Merit or Distinction in BTEC First Diploma Media. You will
need to show a piece of media work at interview.
Where can this lead me? This subject offers a suitable
background for university study including a range of
media production degrees, journalism, multimedia,
marketing/advertising and related disciplines. Some
of our students choose to progress directly into
media-related employment.
