Independent study
Not all of your days at College will be spent in a
classroom, but that doesn’t mean you will not be
learning. From now on, you can have a more active role
in choosing ways to supplement your lessons and make
your chosen subjects more rewarding. By carrying out
wider reading, research and independent study, you will
not only gain a better understanding of a topic, but also
learn new skills – for example, in information retrieval, note
taking, time management and use of ICT, which will be
valuable if you continue your studies at university or in
your future career.
Learning Resources Centre
This provides an extensive range of materials to support
your independent study. These include: over 28,000 book
titles, academic journals, daily newspapers, DVDs and a
resource pack designed to complement your course.
You will be able to browse the catalogue and make
reservations when away from College. This is the place to
come if you wish to read, research or use our extensive
range of computer and media resources. To ensure you
get the access you need, computers can be reserved
online. Fast access to the internet and virtual learning
environment is available from all computers. We offer a
