Battle Choral Society
Founded in 1903 Battle Choral Society is one of the longest
established choirs in the South East with a membership of almost
100 voices. Add four excellent soloists;
Louise Winter, mezzo-soprano, who has sung at many of the
BBC Proms of the past decade, and in the major opera houses and
concert halls worldwide including The Royal Opera House and
Glyndebourne and the fine voices of Judith Colman, soprano, Gary
Marriott, tenor and Matthew Sprange, bass.
Penelope Randall-Davis, soprano, whose dramatic coloratura voice
has also been heard across the world from Glyndebourne to Sydney
Opera House, and the fine voices of Gary Marriott, tenor and
Matthew Sprange, bass.
Add too a substantial professional orchestra conducted by Director
of Music, John Langridge, a former Producer of Live Music for the
BBC, plus a programme of Italian masterpieces and you have all the
ingredients for a magnificent evening of music. In the famous art
deco concert hall the programme begins with the sparkling William
Tell Overture followed by some of the loveliest opera choruses ever
written: The Grand March from Aida, Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves,
Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana, Brindisi from la Traviata,
The Anvil Chorus and more. Finally Rossini’s sublime Stabat
Mater will bring the concert to a resounding climax. Substantial
sponsorship has meant that the ticket price can be kept low so there’s
yet more good news there too.
