Success story Supply Chain
“We knew that Traderman was already well established in providing
software solutions to the logistics industry,” said Andy Lambert,
operations manager at Global Eyes. “tmWare is an off-the-shelf solution
that met about 80 per cent of our requirements and Traderman was very
keen to meet all of our requirements within a very short time frame.”
Implementation of tmWare began last September, with the first customers
making orders via the web just weeks later. Lambert continued: “During
the implementation stages, Traderman staff were available whenever
we needed to call them, and they were, and still are, always very keen
to assist in any way they can to ensure the system delivers everything
our customers and our business requires.” Kieron Coughlin, head of
web development, added: “The implementation team at Traderman has
worked very closely with Global Eyes. A successful implementation is
where both sides are committed to the project and can provide the time
and resource required in specifications, testing and training. This has
been proven by the success and rapid deployment of this implementation.”
Customer confidence grew as Global Eyes introduced more users to
the new web-based booking system. Customers also benefited by
being able to obtain instant update information through reports online.
Phase 2 of the implementation involved the Mobile POD solution. Now,
the driver’s daily schedule is downloaded to the device on log-in, and
items for collection or delivery are scanned by the driver. Warnings are
quickly flagged about invalid or duplicate items. The date, time and
GPS position of each item is captured with each scan. This enables the
customer and Global Eyes to immediately see the last known location
of that package on the map. Drivers also have the ability to query
an item if they suspect details are incorrect; such as weight, etc.
Additionally, the device camera can be used to capture photographs
of any items to assist in dispute resolution later.
Easy and simplicity
On completion, the consignee signs the device and the driver enters
the name for clarification. Transaction details are sent back to tmWare
and details are available immediately to report on. If the device drops
out of a signal area transaction details are automatically stored; data is
then resent when the signal is restored. Even without a signal, drivers
are still able to scan packages on their rounds. Lambert commented:
“It was important that the connectivity issues with devices didn’t hold
the drivers back from getting on with the job at hand; tmWare has
given us the flexibility and reliability that we were looking for.” He
added that Global Eyes now has the ability to look at the loads on each
vehicle, to load plan and to proactively make changes to our operation
whenever we see a problem starting. Lambert also pointed out that the
ease and simplicity of system has made training customers and staff
very easy, as well as making the implementation very smooth.
Coughlin remarked: “The devices Global Eyes required needed to be
multifunctional; with GPS, cameras and GPRS, and be rugged enough
for intensive use in the field. As the configuration of tmWare is such
that we are not tied to any one hardware platform, this meant that we
could extensively search the market for the right device.” Lambert
concluded: “Overall we have been very pleased with the way that
Traderman has developed the software program and the speed at
which this was done. The way and speed that Traderman is able to
respond to our requests has made the whole project a very simple
one to manage and implement.” circlesolid
