Feeling the squeeze With so many holidaymakers choosing the western Med this year, there is an inevitable impact on both flight and accommodation capacity and pricing. Prestige’s David Skillicorn says that flight


capacity is not a problem as airlines have rerouted aircraft away from destinations such as Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey to the Spanish mainland and Canaries. “However, hotel accommodation is already a


problem,” he adds. “We are a small operator and are getting on average several stop sales from hotels across the Med each day. I believe that some of the travel trade has not yet woken up to how acute the shortage of beds in certain destinations is. The old adage ‘book early to avoid disappointment’ has never been more true than this year.” Finding rooms has become “ever more challenging” in some destinations such as Majorca, Croatia and Sicily this summer, adds Skillicorn. Independent property Four Seasons in Limassol, Cyprus, has recently completed a major renovation that includes the refurbishment of its rooms, lobby and reception, swimming pool areas, spa, bars and restaurants, fourseasons.com.cy


Another island classic, Anassa (above), has completed a three-year multimillion-euro renovation project, which has included refurbishing its 166 rooms and suites, adding new villas and upgrading the Thalassa Spa.
