From total makeovers to revamped spa and wedding facilities, here are some of the latest developments in Mauritius – and a host of new activity options too
Anahita Mauritius The Resort is closing from June until September 30, and will become a Golf & Spa Resort upon reopening with a new spa by Themae Paris (operational from December), new junior suites and two Deluxe Villas to follow by January. There will also be an upgraded culinary experience.
Heritage Le Telfair Resort & Spa is due to get a makeover next year with work slated to take place from May to August and a grand reopening in September 2017.
With a revamped spa, yoga platform and new wedding gazebo at Pointe Pecheurs last summer, Beachcomber’s Paradis Hotel & Golf Club (above) is giving its 50 deluxe beachfront rooms a makeover with work expected to be completed by September, including the creation of five new ocean beachfront family suites.
Constance Belle Mare Plage is closing for a major €15 million makeover this summer season (until July 15), replacing its teak furniture with a contemporary look and chilled vibe, with swing chairs, beanbags, and new beach-side cabanas, and creating new beachfront junior suites, 12 prestige rooms and a five-bed presidential villa.
With the rise in family travel, adult-only offerings are increasing island-wide, with the latest adult-only section, Victoria for Two, launching at Beachcomber’s Le Victoria Hotel from December 1, with 40 ocean-facing rooms, private beach, pool, bar and steak house. New family facilities include a kids club on the beach and a teens’ club.
Sun Resorts has created a new brand identity, Timeless Memories, aimed at multigenerational families, and is developing Sun Golf. Future plans include upgrading favourite island playground Ile aux Cerfs, to include more restaurant choices and beach BBQ stations.

Sun Resorts’ family-favourite La Pirogue Resort & Spa celebrates its 40th anniversary with a room makeover (June to November) this year, with work on its public areas to follow in 2017.
Guests at the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort can now hire an electric bike (above right) to explore the area (€15 per hour). The hotel is the first on the island to partner with Electro-bike Discovery and offer the electric cycles; guests can get out on their own in the nature reserve surrounding the hotel, or join a guided excursion around the south- west to Le Morne Brabant, Chamarel or Souillac.

The recently opened GAM private terminal and Yu Lounge allows visitors to arrive and depart in style, with limousine and baggage transfer to/from the aircraft, formalities in-house, champagne and a shower (£165pp with Sunset Faraway Holidays).
Two new 18-hole championship golf courses designed by Peter Malkovich will bring the count to 10 island-wide – Avalon Golf Estate in the south opened last November and Mont Choisy Golf Course in Grand Baie is currently under construction.
