Coming to a screen near you
Over the past six months, it’s been a case of “lights, camera, action!” as ITC prepares to feature in TV documentary about ultra-luxury travel. Having just watched an
advance copy of the first of the two-hour episodes, I was struck by two things. First, it’s humbling when you sit
back as a viewer and watch a programme about the place where you work. After you’ve got over the initial “oh look, there’s such and such”, some of the things people say on screen really hits you where it matters. I was touched by what we do and how it can impact people’s lives. Sure, most of the interesting bits probably ended up on the cutting room floor (as it’s all about the edit), but I’ll look forward to the “director’s cut” for those! Second, if you ever had the
perception people you speak to in our business can be a little “up themselves”, then you won’t after you’ve seen this. You’ll see people who work hard and play hard. You’ll also see people that go the extra mile for you and your clients, and may see people who sometimes pinch themselves as they can’t quite believe they have the best job in the world. Really? Absolutely. They see some of the most beautiful places in the world and get paid for it; plus every day they get to talk to you. We’re awaiting the final schedule
of when this programme airs, but suspect it will be early summer. As soon as I know, you’ll know too.
Qatar shares pearls of wisdom in competition By Abigail Challenor
Agents can win one of five luxury prizes in a new competition, Qatar's Pearls of Wisdom, launched as a joint initiative between TTG and the Qatar Tourism Authority. The five prizes include a place on a fam trip to
Qatar; spa treatment at The Berkeley in London; a £200 Harrods gift voucher; afternoon tea at the Shangri-La Hotel at The Shard; and a Middle Eastern cooking class at The Cooking Academy. To be in with a chance of winning one of the
prizes, agents must complete the Tawash Training Programme (
tawashqatar.com) between June 30 and September 1, 2016. From the end of June, Qatar will be sharing its
“pearls of wisdom” with TTG readers who will find fun facts on the Middle Eastern country hidden in the pages of the magazine. QTA is keen to stress the key selling points of
the destination as being a warm and sunny year- round climate, easy access from the UK with a flight time of seven hours, high standards of accommodation and service, and plenty of activities to suit all types of clients. New properties set to arrive in Qatar include
Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay, opening this year; Innside Doha by Melia in 2017; and Le Meridien Doha in 2018.
