Fatamorgana adds to the aeriel ride line up at Tivoli

Tivoli 2016 Condor flies over Copenhagen

Here’s what the latest Condor from Huss Park Attractions will look like when it opens this April at Tivoli in Copenhagen. The famous Danish park is marketing Fatamorgana as a 3-in-1 attraction. The new ride is based on the Huss Condor 2G (2nd

generation) and offers a choice of two kinds of ride gondola that spin at different speeds as they climb 30 metres (98ft) up the tower. On the fastest ride, passengers are seated back-to-back in a circle and slung around at a dizzying pace. On the more moderate ride, passengers sit facing outwards, allowing them to appreciate the views of Copenhagen's streets from 30 metres (97ft) up. A third ride experience is offered in the shape of a mini bumper car tack which is located beneath the tower loading area. “Some of Denmark's busiest streets pass Tivoli; space is limited, so we have to think outside of the box,” notes Tivoli CEO Lars Leibst. Standing 45 metres

(147ft) in height, Fatamorgana will join other towering Tivoli attractions

Mission accomplished!

It’s not every day you see a lifelike NASA Space Shuttle mounted on top of a Boeing 747. Not unless you work at Space Center Houston, that is. The Texas visitor attraction launched its long-anticipated Independence Plaza on January 23, presented by Boeing. Whilst the Space Shuttle is a replica, the 747 is the actual carrier plane that

NASA used to transport shuttles for decades. Accessing both vehicles via an elevator donated by Otis, Space Center visitors can learn about the Space Shuttle Program via interactive exhibits and artefacts. JRA (jack Rouse Associates) provided planning, design and project management for this “out-of- this-world” facility, which has been years in the making. The Independence Plaza shows the key role Houston’s own NASA Johnson Space Center played in the shuttle’s development and looks to the future through the research currently being performed at NASA. Architecture firm PGAL designed the eye-catching complex, with Jacobs

providing project engineering, while Palletized Trucking helped move the plane Center. In addition to these key in-kind contributions, $5 million was donated by individuals, corporations and foundations.

Europa-Park in 2015 “The jubilee year was the best year in our company’s history,” smiled Roland Mack as his family’s famous park in Rust near Freiburg, Germany, hit the 5.5 million attendance mark during the final weeks of its winter season, which finished on January 10. Contributing to the strong performance – which

represents a 10% leap over the 5 million visits made to Europa-Park in 2014 – was an increase in the number of visitors from the German states North Rhine- Westphalia, Hessen and Rhineland Palatinate together with a rise over 10% from France and Switzerland. “The work we have been doing for many years

including Vertigo (Technical Park Flying Fury), Star Flyer (by Funtime) and the Golden Tower (S&S Space Shot). Meanwhile Tivoli is to add 20 new luxury suites and a spectacular roof terrace to its Nimb Hotel. The 2,000 sq m expansion will feature a heated pool, restaurant and bar, bringing a tropical style twist to the heart of the Danish capital. The park has also entered into a strategic partnership with Holckenhavn Castle, a renaissance castle on the island of Funen, in order to cross-sell tailored accommodation packages. “With our new partner in Funen, we are improving our

opportunities to attract more deep-pocketed tourists,” highlights Leibst.

now to become an international destination for multiple-day visitors is beginning to bear fruit,” notes Mack. “Our conference business has also grown significantly, as it did last year as well. More and more visitors choose to spend more than just one day here.” With an average occupancy last year of 98%, the resort’s five on-site hotels are booming, as such a new 1,000 bed property is planned for 2018 to tie-in with the opening of Europa’s Park first waterpark, plans for which are now in the ‘fine-tuning’ phase. This spring, building work will commence on new major attraction for 2017 As for the coming season, which begins on March 17 (St Patrick’s Day), the park will integrate its latest European country when it rethemes the former Welt der Kinder area and relaunches it as Ireland. More than 10 rides will be on hand – including a new VR version of the park’s Pegasus coaster – together with an event hall. In total the Mack family is investing €20 million in improvements for 2016.
