New Zealand adds stargazing, forest trails and eco tours


Tourism New Zealand has three new tourism experiences to promote to the trade this year. The 12-mile Pouakai Crossing


in Egmont National Park takes visitors on a one-day hike through dense forest, passing Mount Taranaki, an active volcano. Tours are bookable via Top


Guides (topguides.co.nz) and cost from £134 per person based on a minimum of two travelling. The new 60-minute Skyline


Rotorua Stargazing experience begins with a gondola ride up Mount Ngongotaha with a star-gazing guide and a short walk to a stargazing platform to enjoy the night sky. Tours, which

cost from £38, depart daily after dark and are bookable via Skyline (skyline.co.nz/rotorua). Blue Voluntours, a non-profit


social enterprise, has launched in Auckland, offering marine volunteering and eco tours. Activities include planting

South African Tourism is hosting a series of roadshows to educate agents on the country’s product, activities and experiences.


The first event will take place on


March 1 in Glasgow before moving on to Manchester on March 2 and London on March 3 and 4. The lunchtime events will


feature key operators and accommodation providers. Agent prizes, including wine and holidays, will also be up for grabs. The roadshows will serve as a


follow-up to the official relaunch of the tourist board’s new online training programme, SA Specialist.


The programme aims to educate


the trade on the diversity of South Africa, focusing on all nine provinces and “not just the safari and wine”. The first module, SA Specialist: Essentials, must be completed within 90 days, followed by SA Specialist: Experiences. Agents must pass three modules


of their choice from a range including Free State, Gauteng, Northwest, Eastern Cape, Northern
