The great and the good from the UK’s travel industry came together once again last week for the annual Travel Weekly Globe Travel Awards.


Thousands of agents voted in


this year’s awards, which honour top suppliers from across the industry. This year’s event was hosted


by global megastar Dame Edna Everage, alongside Travel Weekly editor-in-chief Lucy Huxley. Guests were kept entertained


throughout the night with performances from The X Factor winner Louisa Johnson and improvise rap duo Abandoman, while the RPJ Band ensured guests were dancing into the early hours. Monarch Travel Group chief

executive Andrew Swaffield was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award. He was credited with saving Monarch from the brink of collapse when he negotiated a sale to Greybull Capital in 2014, and the company returned to profit last year. “I’ve been coming to these


events for 15 years, maybe more, and it’s incredible to receive an award from your peers. It means a great deal,” he said.


“I would like to acknowledge the support of the hundreds of people who have helped me, particularly those on the frontline. I’m the front man but I could not do it without that help and support.” Attraction World was the biggest winner on the night, scooping three awards. Group sales and marketing director Tony Seaman said the awards were the “high point of the year”. Having scooped a triple win of Best Add-Ons Provider, Best Trade Sales Team and Best Trade- Friendly Brand, Seaman added: “The whole point of our business is to sell through travel agents so we do our best to work closely with them, and they will be part of our strategy going forward. We
