Rapido announces new NSC baggage car
N — A lightweight National Steel Car prototype is coming from Rapido Trains, which will include road-spe- cific details for the 16 versions in its initial release. Rapido plans a highly detailed underframe, separate dia- phragm support rods, flush-mounted windows, separately applied wire grab irons, and body-mounted Micro-Trains knuckle couplers. Details will include accurate end doors and one of three styles of trucks: 4-wheel inside swing- hanger, 4-wheel outside swing-hang- er, or 6-wheel Commonwealth cast pedestal. The assembled baggage car will re- tail for $54.95 (U.S.)/$59.95 (Canada).
Road names and paint schemes will in- clude Amtrak (Phase III); Baltimore & Ohio; Canadian National (1954 scheme offered with and without end doors); Chicago, Burlington & Quincy; Central of Georgia; Erie; Great Northern (Em- pire Builder scheme); The Milwaukee Road (1950 scheme); Northern Pacific (two-tone Loewy scheme); New York Central (two-tone gray scheme); On- tario Northland; Penn Central (gray scheme); Southern Pacific (gray); and VIA Canada. Four car numbers will be available for each, Rapido will also pro- duce undecorated baggage cars for cus- tom projects.
