“Red Barns” and M636s coming from Bowser
HO — Modelers of Canadian prototypes will be pleased to learn Bowser plans HO-scale Montreal Locomotive Works’ (MLW) M636 and cowl- body General Motors Diesel (GMD) SD40–2F diesels for future release. Both models will be high-end Executive Line offerings, available in DC and Digi- tal Command Control (DCC) and ESU LokSound editions. MLW produced more than 100 exam-
ples of its version of Alco’s Century 636 from 1969 to 1975. Bowser will make ten paint schemes available for its HO M636 diesel in the first release. Road names will include as-delivered Ca- nadian National and Canadian Pacific schemes, plus later variations. Mexican and secondhand owners of M636s will be included in Bowser’s production. Bowser’s M636 in standard DC version will sell for $209.95, while examples with factory-installed DCC and sound will retail for $309.95. Bowser lists Au- gust 2016 for delivery of its new M636 diesel models.
The full-width cowl-body GMD SD40–
2F was a late 1980s variation of the very popular SD40–2. Sold to Canadian Pacific and lettered CP Rail, these big red diesels came to be known as “Red Barns” by railfans. Three CP Rail letter- ing variations are coming from Bowser in the first production of this all-new SD40–2F model. A late 2016 arrival is expected with standard DC examples retailing for $219.95 and DCC-sound models selling for $319.95.
