Robin Shaw, said the new ships would “transform the business” commercially and “excite existing and new customers alike”. He added that the brand was
looking to sell Pearl II and Sapphire as the new tonnage is introduced. “We will be looking to go
through a transition where the two existing ships are gracefully taken out of service under the Saga name,” said Shaw. “But that’s not to say that they could end up sailing for another company in another part of the world.
CUSTOMER FOCUS: Artist’s impression of a new Saga ship
“The new ship will be modern and intimate, with a quirky British feel”
“The new ship will be an
evolution of everything we’ve built over the years. Older tonnage comes with challenges such as fuel usage and resilience, with repairs and maintenance needed. “The new ship will allow us to be future-proof. It will help us
commercially and from a customer point of view. “The ship will carry fewer
than 1,000 passengers and will be modern and intimate, with a quirky British feel. That’s what our customers are looking for. “We’re setting out to please our
existing customers, but also to entice new passengers to cruise with us for the first time.” The ship is expected to have 540 suites and cabins, of which 15%
will be for single passengers.
