Now available from SKF is a pre-loaded wire steering column bearing (P-WSCB) which is said to help towards reducing noise levels in cars. According to the
company, the bearing reduces noise levels by around 4dB(A) compared with standard SKF bearings. Gaps in the wire raceway give flexibility to the bearing’s outer ring, which allows for press fit mounting into the housing. Additional features that reduce noise include reduced roughness of the inner ring; a change of ball quality grade; and
optimisation of grease quantity. In addition, the bearing offers a better driving feel, in terms of friction torque and steering column stiffness, and helps to mitigate vibrations from the road to the driver. It supports axial and radial loads, and provides electrical conductivity, which helps towards the smooth functioning of airbags and other

New products have been added to Schaeffler’s X-life range. These include the FAG TORB toroidal rolling bearing with angular adjustment capability. This single row rolling bearing has long, slightly spherical rollers, which
enables it to combine the angular adjustment capabilities of a spherical roller bearing with the axial displacement capabilities of a cylindrical or needle roller bearing. This is available in two versions: as full complement bearings or as a caged version. When the design envelope is restricted, the caged bearing provides very high radial load carrying capacity, even when skewing or axial displacements need to be compensated for. The full complement bearing offers a particularly high load carrying capacity. Also available are
radial insert ball bearings and housing units. For harsh applications such as food processing, packaging machines and agricultural machinery, these bearings benefit from a 15% increase in bearing life, an
expanded application temperature range of -40˚C to +180˚C, and a high level of anti-corrosion protection via the use of the Corrotect N coating. An improved locking collar design means higher clamping forces; and reliable seals keep the high quality grease inside the bearing.

GGB Bearing Technology has expanded its line of lead-free, bimetal bearings with the addition of its GGB-SZ material. The new plain bearings consist of a tin-bismuth-bronze sliding
layer sintered onto a steel backing, providing high load capacity, particularly high specific loads with low-frequency, and oscillating motion. In addition, the bearings have a broad temperature range with very good fatigue resistance at higher temperatures, and good corrosion resistance. Applications include agricultural and construction equipment, textile machinery, pneumatic equipment, king pins, brake callipers, oil pumps and small end bearings.
