MOTION CONTROL FEATURE Precise engineering
A Tecnotion curved linear motor with looped track
have a low attraction force in respect to their continuous force exerting low wear on the bearings. They also have low cogging which gives, in combination with the cogging compensation algorithm, a very smooth motion. In addition, the curves are often custom because of the different need in radius and force range. Tecnotion is able to deliver up to 2000N of continuous force depending on diameter. Tecnotion also offers digital and analogue hall sensors. The
digital hall sensors are used for commutation and need an additional feedback system; the analogue Hall sensor can also be used as feedback to read the position by using the magnet track as ruler. This allows for a low cost feedback on the entire looped track. The accuracy for this analogue Hall sensor is limited to a maximum of 100µm absolute and 33µm repeatable accuracy.
“The new concept combines a control
algorithm from ACS Motion Control with curved magnet tracks that join directly to linear magnet tracks from Tecnotion”
However, where higher accuracy is needed, an additional feedback
device is required and the native selection would be linear encoder. Optical linear encoders have existed in the market for many years, and the machine designer can choose the one that best meets the requirements. However, due to the tight mechanical tolerances required for optical encoders, magnetic encoders are an ideal match for such a system. Traditionally, linear magnetic encoders were capable of having
measuring accuracy of ~±20µm due to scale limitations. But with a recent technology breakthrough, linear magnetic encoders can now be as accurate at 3µm/meter, with extremely low sub-division errors. The track can be made in several shapes offering multiple kinds
of solutions: oval, circular, square with curved corners. The possibilities are endless. Applications can be found in packaging, factory automation, assembly stations, digital printing, lab automation, hexapods, systems in need of a pitchless conveyor design, and applications which don’t allow human interferences.
THE MOTION CONTROL ADVANTAGES The new motion control solution delivers many advantages over moving magnet transport systems, including higher accuracy and faster response time because there are no issues with latency due to direct feedback of encoder to the drive. It allows the use of asinusoidal commutation instead of complex commutation profiles, and is easy to control due to the moving coil setup. Finally, the cost per meter is lower.
