Demag V-type crane triumphs
in Red Dot Awards
worldwide award scheme for product innovation. The international judging panel, comprising designers, design professors and trade journalists from 25 nations, made the award in the machinery product category, in recognition of the innovative crane girder design. The Red Dot accolade follows on from the success of the patent pending V-type crane design at the prestigious iF Design Award at the beginning of February. In total, around 5,000 products from 56 countries were submitted for the Red Dot Award: Product Design, in this its 60th year. As the winning product, the Demag V-type crane will be shown from 29 June to 26 July 2015 at a special exhibition in the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, and will be part of the museum’s permanent exhibition in the following months.

he Demag V-type crane has won the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015, which is a major
handling. The new automated assembly line transfers pre- assembled cages along an accumulation conveyor to a specially designed 2 axis pick and place transfer unit. Stacks of pallets are accumulated on a heavy duty twin chain conveyor system and a pallet de-stacker feeds single pallets into a guarded area to a position where the cages are automatically lifted onto the pallet via the 2 axis transfer unit. The cage and pallet then proceed to the operator fixing station where the pallet and cage are assembled together; when complete, they transfer to the bottle insertion machine via a series of accumulation conveyors. The system comprises of heavy duty driven roller and twin chain pallet conveyors, turntables, 90 degree chain transfer unit and a pallet de-stacker. The project was designed, manufactured and installed complete with the electrical control system without any major impact on production and has virtually eliminated manual handling, delivering a 10% increase in productivity with a payback on the total project of 1.25 years. On the back of this success, Astec have been awarded another contract by the same company for another conveyor system to further automate production. Astec Conveyors can provide bespoke design, manufacture and installation of conveyor systems to meet individual handling requirements for light, medium or heavy duty applications in stainless steel or mild steel construction.

ollowing the launch of the Linde H14-H20 EVO, industrial truck manufacturer Linde Material Handling has now completed the range
and taken the smallest series in the 1.4 to 2.0 tonne load capacity range to the next level. Recognisable by the black design element, which extends into the red-painted chassis, the small EVO now also features significant additions as standard, including the Linde Curve Assist for appropriate driving speed during cornering, a new generation seat and armrest, an engine protection system, and a choice between three different driving modes that enable adjusting the energy consumption and power requirement to match the operating conditions. For perfectly safe cornering manoeuvres every time, Linde has continued to offer the Linde Curve Assist as standard now across all its electric and IC counterbalance trucks in the 1.4 to 5-tonne load range. This electronic system reduces traction speed automatically depending on steering angle, reducing the risk of accidents.

Lift Safe Solves Heavy Battery Lifting Problem for Adept Power Solutions L
ift Safe, materials handling equipment and mobile work lifters specialist, has lightened the load of Adept Power Solutions (APS) by
supplying it with a bespoke lifter to move large industrial batteries. APS, of Andover, Hampshire, provides solutions for customers’ site issues, sales, and services for uninterruptable power supply (UPS) electronic devices for the power protection industry. The company is currently undertaking a contract to replace 42 tonnes of batteries and redesign two complete battery/UPS rooms for the London headquarters of a global banking organisation. “As soon as I saw the job, I knew I would want one of Lift Safe’s specially made lifters,” says Colin Smith, DC Battery Specialist at APS, who co-designed the site-specific lifter with Lift Safe and the project works on site.

As a result, the cost- effective EVOLUTION SoniXs TRC-6 delivers extremely reliable, high-quality strapping of up to 28 strapped packages per minute on a standard-size frame with a passage width of 1650mm, and up to 25 packages per minute on the largest passage width of 2600mm.
