LOGISTICS FEATURE HIGH-SPEED SWITCH SORTER: FUTURE-PROOFED SOLUTION

Energy efficient, units are suitable for high speed sortation applications in logistic chains, distribution and e.commerce applications

Astec Conveyors has received a patent for its High Speed Switch Sorter Unit which has been well proven over recent years with many modules successfully installed in sortation systems throughout various industry sectors all over the country. The patent relates to the innovative engineering design that eliminates the need for use of special tools or skilled operatives to change the 64 drive bands which simplifies maintenance and reduces downtime. Astec’s many years of involvement in

the logistics and distribution industry providing materials handling and storage solutions led them to designing the new high speed two-stage switch unit in order to fulfill customer requirements. This modular high speed pneumatically operated switch sorter provides a new dimension in integrated system design. It offers maximum versatility with

bi-directional (left/right) 30° sortation of various products, handling items as little as 200mm square at speeds of up to 30 items per/min. The compact two-stage

module can virtually halve the spacing required as a norm between conveyed parcels which contributes to optimum space utilisation and feeding of close pitched sort lanes. Energy efficient, they do not require additional drive units and can be slave driven directly from any existing main lineshaft conveyor. They are exceptionally quiet in operation due to the smooth rubber sortation wheels which give a quick and positive switching action. The modular switch sorter provides for maximum flexibility and future-proofing, enabling units to be relocated with their functional intelligence to meet future handling changes.

Astec pre-configure and factory test units to ensure simplicity of installation and can provide controls and customised software to meet individual customer requirements and ensure optimum system integration with high performance levels. They are suitable for high speed sortation applications in logistic chains, distribution and e.commerce applications to convey a wide range of products.
