The 2014 reunion went off with a bang or rather, a collective laugh, as alumni from across the years came together to share stories of the past.
The day began with bubbly and nibbles in the brand new Spine & Dine facility at the AECC. Alumni brought along memorabilia and reminisced as they looked through old photographs from old times shared. As the merriment continued, attendees recalled memories from their time at the college and reflected on how the AECC has impacted their lives as chiropractors.
Sarah Hawkes who graduated in 2002 commented: “It’s great to be here and it’s weird because it just feels like we have been on a week’s holiday and we’ve just come back, it doesn’t feel like ten years have gone by. It’s lovely being back because being here made my life what it is now. It’s really great catching up with old friends that have stayed friends and will be friends forever.”
Alumni were also given a tour of the brand new Open Upright MRI facility by Principal Haymo Thiel, Director of Special Imaging Alan Breen and MRI Superintendent Radiographer Mel Jones. Alumni have been fundamental in supporting the AECC through the years, and this new development is no exception with an amazing amount of engagement from former graduates wanting to support their alma mater in this new and exciting development.
Anna Garstin commented: “I’ve just come back for my ten year reunion, its amazing coming back and seeing everyone again, the clinic looks amazing and it’s so exciting with the new MRI unit as well. It feels really good to be back and to still feel really passionate about being a chiropractor and seeing all these other people here doing the same thing. I think it’s great.”
The evening event took place at the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel and with over 100 alumni in attendance the night did not fail to impress. There was more reminiscing, plenty of dancing and an impressive £2,000 taken in MRI pledges to add to donations already collected. A huge thank you to all that attended.
2004 graduate Gary Kirwan summed up the event: “I’m here at the Alumni Reunion for my ten year anniversary, I’m having a great time and it’s awesome to catch up with old friends. We’ve all been thinking back to old times, old parties and memories of events that happened at college. It was fantastic seeing the new premises, and just seeing the AECC grow into what it has become today.”
For this year’s special anniversary, the graduating years of 1985, 1990, 1995 and 2005 will be honoured, but we would like to emphasise that this 2015 special anniversary event, (even more so than ever) is for all years to come along and celebrate this huge milestone with us.
