Railtrail seeks new trade partners and targets 5% sales

Juliet Dennis Railtrail is aiming to generate 5% of its sales via the trade as it plans to work more broadly with agents. The operator hopes to capitalise on the growing popularity of rail breaks. It pays 10% commission and there is a log-in for registered trade partners on its website. Until now it has had commercial

agreements in place only with a small number of specialist agents. Commercial manager Rob

Carroll said: “Although we already have partnerships with specialist agents, ours is a fairly mainstream product and we are seeking partnerships with the many

agents open to understanding why a rail holiday is an attractive alternative.” Carroll aims for

steady growth in trade sales. “If we reached 5% [of business through the trade] in the first year I’d be satisfied; if we reached 10% I’d be delighted,” he added.

The operator has just launched its two 2015 brochures, offering 12 new tours.

Seven of the new tours are in its main brochure, which feature ‘classic’ tours in the UK and Europe. The Signature

brochure, which features more unusual accommodation, has five new tours, including the five-day Augill Castle & the Yorkshire Dales, from

£699. This includes three nights at a 15-room Victorian castle and excursions on a classic 1950s coach including Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales. railtrail.co.uk
