foods, limit TV watching and not spend hours on end in front of a computer screen playing Minecraft. If you have a child such as this, you know it may seem easier at times to just let them have their way—but you have to ask yourself: “Is my child the boss of this household? Does the child know better than the family doctor and I what constitutes good health?” Obviously, all parents want to answer those two questions with a resounding NO! So to make this transition easier, you have to be the unwavering structure that does not bend through the strong winds of chaotic crying and anger. You do not have to fi ght back in anger or even raise your voice; simply state what you expect and do not bend. While some foods may have to be completely eliminated from a child’s diet due to food intolerances, most activities do not have to be cut out entirely but lessened. If your child spends several hours a day playing video games and watching television, simply limit these activities as to where they no longer take precedence over everything else in the child’s life. What you will see in time is that the child will realize that you cannot be manipulated and they will not only start to do as they are directed but also start to take joy and pride in how healthy their family is.
