For some, the USA Shoot- ing National Championships for Shotgun were a tune-up for something bigger, for others it was opportunity to begin anew and perhaps a prelude of things to come. Whatever the individual goal, overall results were impressive as USA Shoot- ing’s shotgun program showcased its depth and talent over eight August days in Colorado Springs. Jake Wallace (Castaic,
California) earned his fi rst National title in Men’s Trap in preparation for his World
Championship opportunity this September. Two-time Olympian Corey Cog- dell (Eagle River, Alaska) reminded everyone that an Olympic spot will still have to go through her as she eased the sting of not making the World Champi- onship team with a National Championship. The ultra-competitive Men’s Double Trap event saw its fourth different champion in as many years with four-time Olympian and 2008 Olympic gold medalist Glenn Eller (Houston) tak-

ing this year’s top honors. It was Eller’s fi rst U.S. title since 2010. He was also part of a championship marquee moment, dueling junior World Champion Ian Rupert (Muncy, Pennsylva- nia) in a 112-target shootoff for the “bronze-medal fi nal” the fi rst day, then a 30-tar- get shootoff the following day to see who would move on to the “gold-medal fi nal.” A fi rst-time champion
was crowned with Morgan Craft (Muncy Valley, Penn- sylvania) winning in con- vincing fashion while World
Team member Dustin Perry (Lovelady, Texas) became the only repeat champion in the fi ve Open division categories by virtue of a shoot-off against Hayden Stewart (USAMU/Columbia, Tennessee).
As a result of their National Championship per- formances, skeet athletes Phillip Jungman (Caldwell, Texas) and Stewart along with trap athlete Alex Rennert (Surfside, Florida) earned National Team ap- pointments for the fi rst time in their careers while Kayle
