World Championship Preview: Shotgun Brimming with Confi dence If World Cup success
is any indication, the USA Shooting Team for Shotgun is as confi dent as it has been in recent history. USA Shooting Team athletes in shotgun have earned 13 medals in 2014. A Junior Team contingent featuring all 15 members of the Ju- nior Team that will compete in Spain also earned seven medals as well at a Junior Cup in Suhl, Germany, in- cluding three gold, two silver and two bronze along with 11 top-seven performances. At the recently completed Spain Grand Prix, USA’s double-barreled specialists earned nine medals as well. Highlighting this season’s performance to date was a recent historic medal run at the Munich World Cup in which the shotgun team gathered seven podium fi n- ishes. U.S. Army Marksmanship
Unit (USAMU) cover boys and Olympians Glenn Eller, Josh Richmond and Jeff Holguin will look to keep an impressive run going at Worlds. The double trap trio rarely visit any range in the world without prospect- ing some hardware, having earned fi ve of the 12 World Cup medals handed out this season. In 32 events since 2008, including Olympic Games, World Champion- ship, World Cup Finals and World Cups, an American has fi nished lower than sixth only six times. In the nine
events since London, only once [World Cup Cyprus] has an American fi nished lower than fi fth. In that stretch, the U.S. team has earned eight medals. Since 2008, the U.S. Men’s Double Trap Team has won 21 medals in 32 events. Hard to believe that reign-
ing two-time Olympic cham- pion Vincent Hancock could take a back seat to anyone, but it has happened in pre- viewing the Men’s Skeet con- tingent for Worlds. The rise of Dustin Perry is the rea- son. In a highly-competitive U.S. Championships, Perry earned a second straight national title to go along with the fi rst World Cup medal (bronze) of his career at the beginning of the season in Tucson followed by a fourth- place fi nish in Munich and another bronze at the Spain Grand Prix. Hancock and Olympian Frank Thompson
highlight yet another disci- pline strength of USA Shoot- ing.
In women’s skeet, Kim
Rhode has picked up where she left off competitively be- fore taking time away from the sport to have a baby last May with three World Cup medals in 2014 including two wins. Brandy Drozd and Haley Dunn have showcased the depth in this discipline as well with Drozd winning a silver medal and fi nish- ing fourth in two World Cup events, both times losing in a shoot-off to Rhode dur- ing the medal fi nals. Dunn joined the U.S. Team sweep in Munich with a bronze medal. Drozd and Dunn fi n- ished 1-2 respectively in the Spain Grand Prix as well. Recent World Cup med-
alists Victoria Burch (pic- tured) and Janessa Beaman will join Ashley Carroll in Granada for Women’s Trap.

Burch and Beaman earned a 1-2 fi nish at the Munich World Cup while Beaman also scored a silver medal at the Spain Grand Prix earlier this summer. Na- tional Championships silver medalist Carroll won the selection events for World Championships and recently fi nished third at the Spain Grand Prix. Men’s Trap is highlighted
by recently crowned U.S. Champion Jake Wallace who will team with USAMU teammates Ryan Hadden and Seth Inman.
