Driver Hire, a B2B management franchise, is the UK’s largest specialist in its field. With nearly 100 offices nationwide, it provides temporary and permanent drivers and other logistics staff to local and national organisations in both the public and private sector.
Quick returns
In his first year as a Driver Hire franchise owner, Gee achieved annual sales of over £800,000. That’s testament to Gee’s great customer service values and business acumen.
"We aim to strike a good balance between gaining new customers and exceeding the expectations of our current clients. We're always looking to sell a new service to them. For instance, have they thought of asking us for help with warehouse staff, fork lift drivers and so on?
We offer a service that people need - you just have to tell them about it," says Gee.
In October 2012 Gee’s efforts were recognised at the British Franchise Association’s (bfa) ‘Franchisee of the Year’ awards where he won the top title for the London and South East Region.

The UK recruitment market is huge and is currently worth around £22 billion a year, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC). In addition to this, the current economic uncertainty actually works in favour of the Driver Hire business model. Its core service responds to customers' need for cost control and flexibility, so they can adjust staffing levels quickly in response to fluctuating demand.
“It’s actually quite a simple business,” says Gee. “Recruitment is just bringing people together.”
Since opening Driver Hire’s London South East franchise, Gee has got off to a flying start. The office had been closed for 18 months prior to his arrival but he rapidly tapped into the local business potential. From a standing start, the office now covers an average of 130 shifts a week. He’s built a strong client base of major national companies and local businesses.
Commenting on Gee’s success, Chris Chidley, Driver Hire’s Chief Executive said “Gee’s London South East office has been a brilliant success story. He’s a star within the Driver Hire business and his efforts have already been recognised through a series of internal awards. It’s great that he’s now achieved external recognition from the bfa Awards’ judges who were clearly impressed by his ability and determination.
This is the second year in succession that a Driver Hire office has been amongst the honours at the bfa awards, which I think says a huge amount about the talent and expertise in our network.”
Looking ahead
Gee has no regrets about setting up on his own within a franchised network. In particular he values the ongoing training and support he has been given.
“I’m delighted with the way things have gone so far. I get a real buzz from helping my customers. The support we get from Head Office is superb and we’ve especially benefitted from National Accounts. I’m confident that the future will bring even further growth and success for my business.”
